In windows Vista and 7, click on the start button then in the "search programs and files" window, enter "power options".  Click on "Power Options" that appears near the top of the window that pops up.

A new window will appear with options for "Balanced (Recommended)" and "Power Saver"  For the one you have selected, click on "Change plan settings".

You will see the timeout settings for when the computer is on battery and when it is plugged in.  Change the plugged in setting for going to sleep to "Never".
