Male Descendants of William Bell

Looking at William Bell’s male offspring.  It would appear that one of his grandsons or one of his great grandsons would be the likely person.  Their birth dates range from 1744 to 1778.

William’s Son, William Bell Jr 1720-1802 moved to North Carolina or Tennessee around 1783 at the close of the Revolutionary war.  He was 63 then so his kids were probably all adults by then but one reference, Colonial Families of North America, said he moved with his family.  Also, I cannot find much out about his family so I will abandon this line, assume none are candidates.

William’s son David Bell 1722-1780 was born and died in Augusta County, so I assume he was there most of his life.  He was a captain in the Revolutionary war.

He had 3 sons:

William 1756-1835 He would have been 42 and single at the time of the conception and lived in Augusta county.  He got married in 1822 at the age of 66 and never had children.   He would definitely be a candidate.

John Bell: 1758-1835 Moved to Tennessee in 1780 so not a candidate.

James ;  The only thing I can only find that he split up 2000 acres in Tennessee with his brother, John but he did not continue to live in Tennessee.  He would be a possible candidate,. Do not know enough to make a particularly good assessment.  It is possible that the reference to the brothers James and John are in error and it should have been William and John.  On the other hand, I found a spouse for James Bell but no clear way to verify the parents of that James bell.  Member data says he was born in 1760 Possible candidate.

William’s son Samuel Bell 1724-1803 had 8 sons:

William: 1744-183: He spent his whole life in Augusta County so he is definitely a possibility but again he would have been 54 at the time of the conception and married to a wife who was only 31 at the time of the conception so I rate him a distant possibility.

James 1750 I: can not find any firm data on him but other member trees have him dying in Virginia, so he is a possibility.  He would have been 48 at the time of the conception so he is not a real likely candidate.  Probably married at that time to a wife 2 years his senior.

Thomas and George: Only have member data to go by which uniformly says each only lived a year.  The lack of other data online would tend to reinforce the idea that they died quite young.  Not possible.

Joseph 1755-1833: Lived his entire life in Augusta County.  Not lot a of data, not even marriage status.  He would have been 43 so a little old for a 21-year-old.  A possibility.

Samuel 1756-1803:  Born Augusta County and his first marriage was there, 1787.  The marriage apparently ended in divorce as a woman with the same name as his wife, Rosanna Smith married someone else the next year in St James Northam Parish, Goochland Virginia.  Samuel did not marry again until 1802 so he was definitely single when William Frysinger was conceived in March 1798.  He would have been 42. March 1798.  He is a definite possibility.  He was still definitely living in Virginia.

David: I could not find any data on him other than other member trees which are notoriously inaccurate but 5 out of 10 that had him  have him dying on 1780 so he is out as being dead at the critical time or lack of data to investigate further. Lack of data also increases the chance that the person died young.  Not likely

John 1770-1848: Born in Augusta Co, married in 1804 in Frederick co, Virginia about 70 miles north Rockingham Co. so he was single and 28 in the area at the time of  the pregnancy. He did not get married until 6 years later, so he was probably not in a serious relationship.  He was the most likely according to the Y-DNA test I took.

William’s son Joseph Bell 1742-1823: born and died in Augusta county Virginia.  He could have been a candidate himself but at 56 and married at the time of the pregnancy, probably unlikely. Joseph had 4 sons:

William (Major) 1766-:  got married in 1790 in Augusta County so he was in the area March 1798 when William Frisinger was conceived.  He was 32 years old at the time, so he must be considered a serious candidate.

James Bell 1773-1856 He lived his whole life in Augusta County.  He was 25 years old at the time of the impregnation. , so he must be considered a serious candidate.

David Bell 1771-1778, not alive at the critical time so not possible.

Joseph Bell Jr. 1778-1855 Spent his whole life in Virginia.  Married 16 June 1800 Probably in Augusta county. He came out as the second most likely candidate based on my Y-DNA test. He was 20 years old at the time of the pregnancy, so he must be considered the 2nd most serious candidate.

Looking at great grandsons

Through grandson William Bell 1744-1833 Only girls.

Through grandson James 1750, no reliable data but member trees indicate the family was in the county of Isle of Wight, Virginia which is on the coast, so quite a way away.  Some sons were in the target range, however.  Rated not likely.

Through grandson Joseph 1755-1832 Born and died in Augusta County, Virginia where the majority of Bells lived.   However, I cannot find any evidence of children either directly or Member trees.

Through grandson Samuel Givens 1756-1843.  No reliable data but the son born first was born in 1794 according to  various member trees so they are out of the running.

Through Grandson William 1756 No hint of any kind.

Through Grandson John 1758 Moved to Tennessee around 1780

Through Grandson Samuel Givens 1756-1843  Too young to be a candidate.

There are 2 sons of Samuel Bell 1724-1803, David, and John that nothing is known about so nothing known about their kids.
