How to use Family Tree Maker to find unrelated individuals.
If you have not synced Family Tree Maker since making
significant changes, do that first. If you have already used the “Publish” Option to do
something else, you will need to close Family Tree maker and open it up again.
Then go to Publish along the top menu bar then along the left-side menu
select “Relationship Reports” then Kinship reports (Double click) in the middle
sample charts.
If things do not seem to be working out and you have been running FTM for
some time in this session, close it then open
it again. A fresh start seems
to help. There used to be a way to order the list by rlatonship so
all the ones not related would be at the ned but that does not seem to be
the case now. The old method was: Now in the right-hand menu select individuals to include,
check “All individuals” then in the menu below select sort individuals by
kinship.
This will generate a list
ordered by kinship alphabetically so “unrelated” will down toward the bottom of
the list. It occasionally flags people as unrelated when they
actually are so before you delete them make certain they are not related.
In Ancestry, if they are related the relationship shows below the name at
the top of their page. I have found
some false positives. For example, a
person who was the brother-in-law of 4th cousin 2x removed got
flagged. |
