Robert and daughter-in-law, Amber, grandchildren, Kaleigh and Joshua. Education:
B.A. English Literature, Biology; University of Michigan, 1966. Political Experience: Ava first ran for elected office in 1981 in an effort to save Issaquah’s local air field and its surrounding property the Pickering Farm from development. In 1982
she was appointed by the Mayor to serve on the Planning Commission, a post she
held for four years. She then ran for two terms on the Issaquah City Council serving from 1986 to 1993. She
ran again for
Council in 1995 and won with a 67% majority. She was elected Mayor in 1997 in a
close race with another Council member. In 2001 she was re-elected Mayor with a
more than 90% majority vote. Other Experience:
In 1994 Ava
formed her own consulting firm, Green Heron Consulting and from 1994 to 1999 Ava worked in land use planning as a consultant. From 1996-1998 Ava also served on the Planning Accreditation Board as
Citizen Planner and evaluated US and Canadian Universities' Planning Departments
to further high quality land use planning education. That appointment was made by the President of the American
Planning Association. |
